Data Removal & Objection

Superlurk is a search engine for the public social web. When a post is relevant to a user's question, we may display a limited amount of information about it and always link back to the original post on its platform. Specifically, we may show:

• the author's public username/handle and display name, and a link to the profile;
• a short snippet or caption from the post (not the full content);
• a thumbnail or preview image;
• the post's URL and timestamp, and the platform it's on;
• public engagement metrics shown by the platform, such as like, view, and comment counts.

We obtain this indirectly— from the public platforms and from third-party search providers, not from you directly. Because the data isn't collected from you, this notice provides the transparency information required by Article 14 of the GDPR. We don't rehost full posts, and we don't go behind logins, private accounts, or paywalls.

Where data-protection law applies, our lawful basis is legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR): the interest of our users in finding and understanding public social content, and our interest in operating a search-and-answer engine that points back to original sources.

We've weighed that against your rights and freedoms (a "balancing test"). In your favor, we only surface content that is already public, show limited snippets rather than full posts, always link back to your original post, don't build advertising profiles, and give you this straightforward way to object. On that basis we believe our use doesn't override your interests — but you can object at any time and we'll re-assess your specific situation. We don't intentionally process special-category data, and we don't target this processing at children.

Snippets appear to the user who ran the relevant search and, to generate the answer, are processed by the LLM and search providers listed on our Sub-processors page. Results are point-in-time snapshots and are cached only briefly to serve and improve results; we don't maintain a persistent, standalone profile of you. If you remove or make a post private on the platform, it stops appearing in new results as our data refreshes.

Depending on where you live, you have the right to object to this processing (Article 21), and to request access (Article 15), rectification (Article 16), erasure (Article 17), or restriction (Article 18) — and equivalent rights under other privacy laws. You don't need a Superlurk account to use them.

To make a request, email privacy@superlurk.com with:

• the username/handle and platform(s) involved;
• link(s) to the specific posts or results you're asking about (or enough detail for us to identify them);
• what you'd like — for example, to object to and suppress your handle or posts from future results, or to remove specific results; and
• enough information for us to reasonably confirm the request relates to you or to an account you're authorized to act for.

We'll acknowledge and act on valid requests without undue delay and within the time the applicable law requires. Where we can, we'll suppress the identified content and your handle from future results. If we can't fully grant a request, we'll explain why, and you can complain to your local data-protection authority.
